When I grew up, people did not live in fear of letting their children head outdoors to run off their energy playing with the kids in the neighborhood. I remember playing Ghost-In-The-Graveyard, Annie-I-Over and other games of tag, stopping only for dinner and then back out til dark. It is not as simple and safe to let our children run the neighborhood like we did. Today, we keep our eye on our children at all times.
Many parents are making the choice to organize play dates. Parents take turns supervising the much needed playtime. This rotation of the supervision turns out to be quite wonderful for the parents as well, as it gives everyone an opportunity to have some free time without the kids.
